The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who may be vulnerable to possible underachievement.
Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and it is allocated to schools to provide additional support to pupils who are in receipt of free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible for FSM in the past 6 years (Ever 6). Pupils who are looked after by the local authority (CLA) are also eligible for the PPG along with children of armed services personnel. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and to raise the attainment of the pupils identified.
The Department for Education says that “It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to access what additional provision should be made for individual pupils.”
