Reading

Please read with your child as often as you can. The children can change their reading books when they have read their reading book twice. Reading must be logged in your child’s reading record. Please leave a comment to say how they read as well as telling us they are ready for a new book.

Here are some comprehension questions you could ask your child whilst reading together:

Phonics

Phonics is a way of teaching children to read quickly and skilfully.  They are taught how to:

recognise the sounds that each individual letter makes; identify the sounds that different combinations of letters make such as ‘sh’ or ‘oo' and blend these sounds together from left to right to make a word.

Occasionally, in addition to your child's reading book, we may send home some extra phonics activities to help your child with their reading skills.

Story time and Rhyme time

The children will have time in each day to participate in story time and rhyme time. Reading stories allows children to develop their vocabulary skills and their storytelling skills. We will be singing nursery rhymes throughout the day which will contribute to development of early maths skills.
