This week our local police came to talk to our children in assembly about Halloween and Firework safety. We are very grateful to our local community policing team for helping us to ensure our children remain safe.

Lancs Constabulary Advice for a Safe Halloween

Whether you are out trick or treating or sitting in with the lights off, stay safe and stay considerate - not everyone wants a ring at the door tonight!

🎃 Stick in groups if you’re out and about and make sure an adult stays with children at all times

🎃 If there aren’t decorations outside someone’s house, they’re probably not celebrating, so it’s best not to knock

🎃 If at any time you feel unsafe (as a trick or treater or as someone staying at home), don’t forget you can call us on 101, or 999 if there is an immediate emergency

We hope everyone has a ghoul-y good night 👻

Firework Safety Advice

Only adults should deal with setting up and lighting of fireworks Children and young people should be supervised and watch and enjoy fireworks at a safe distance.

If you must have fireworks at home, please follow this safety advice:

DOs

Only buy fireworks from retailers registered with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service
Keep fireworks in a closed box
Follow the instructions on each firework
Light them at arm's length, using a taper
	Stand well back
	Always supervise children around fireworks
Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves
	Keep pets indoors

DON'Ts

Don't drink alcohol if setting off fireworks
Never go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn't gone off, it could still explode

Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them

Never give sparklers to a child under five
Don't let fireworks off after 11pm

Sparkler Safety

Did you know that sparklers burn at 2000 degrees, that’s 20 times hotter than boiling water! If you're using sparklers, please follow these safety tips:

Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to children under the age of 5, they will not understand how to use them safely
Always wear gloves when handling sparklers
Never hold a baby or child if you have a sparkler in your hand
Put finished sparklers into a bucket of water as soon as they have burnt out as they can stay hot for a long time
	Always supervise children using sparklers
Avoid dressing children in loose or flowing clothes - they may catch light
Show children how to hold sparklers - away from their body and at arm's length

Teach children not to wave sparklers near anyone else or run while holding them
