Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to our class page. Here you will find any information about homework, what we are/ have been learning about and any photos of the fun things that have been going on in school!
Let's take a selfie!
There were some tired eyes when the children woke up this morning, but also a lot of excitement ahead of the final day of this year's residential trip. A trip to Cadbury World lay ahead of us all. This trip involved a tour around the factory learning about the history of Cadbury, how it all began and how it grew to what it is today, seeing how the chocolate is made and of course collecting lots of free samples on the way round. We were also able to visit the 4D adventure experience and took part in a poetry workshop where we learnt lots about what goes on behind the scenes at Cadbury and what it's like to work there, alongside the children letting their writing ability show by creating some amazing chocolate based poems. But the day wouldn't have been complete without a trip to the gift shop on the way out where it's safe to say the kids bought enough chocolate to keep them going for a long, long time!
Day 3 started off with us packing up and saying a massive thank you to our hosts for the first 2 nights of our trip, YHA Stratford. Then we made our way to Warwick Castle where we had a packed schedule to allow us to learn about the history of one of the oldest standing castles in the country. Upon arrival, we took part in an attack and defence workshop where we looked at the defences the castle had in place to stop intruders from entering and planned out how would be the best way for us to attack the castle in order to take over. We then had some time to explore the different areas around the castle before making our way to 'The Falconers Quest' bird show, where we were amazed by these beautiful birds of prey. After a quick stop for tea we headed to the 'Ministry of Science' show at the Redditch theatre where we had front row seats to all the crazy experiments they performed on stage, with one of our children even getting to go up on stage and take part in one of their experiments. After a busy day we then made our way to our accommodation for the night before our busy last day tomorrow.
Another action packed day after a fairly late night last night with the children enjoying sleeping in rooms with their friends for the first night of the trip. We kicked off the day with a lovely breakfast at the hostel before making our way to the 'Royal Shakespeare Company' where we all took part in an acting and drama class lead by one of their drama teachers. We played a variety of different acting games and practised different techniques when acting out different Shakespeare scenes. We then made our way on a walk around Stratford where we stopped for dinner and games at the park and visited some souvenir shops to give the children chance to spend some of their money if they wanted to. After that, we set off on our open top bus tour of Stratford visiting multiple famous locations while dodging low hanging branches from trees we passed with the wind blowing in our faces. We then started the evening with a visit to Pizza Express for tea when everyone enjoyed their meal chosen from the menu, and coming back to the hostel for archery lessons to finish the evening off. Now for a good night's sleep before making our way to Warwick Castle in the morning.
WE'VE ARRIVED!!! After a smooth journey this morning we arrived in Stratford ready for dinner time and trust me it was well needed! After dinner we visited the 'Shakespeare Birth Place Trust' and after just over an hour's worth of rehearsals the children put on a performance for the other visitors to the venue. We then went for a wonder around Shakespeare's birth place, visiting all the different rooms in his old house and learning some background to what life was like when he was young. Finishing off the day with the journey to YHA Stratford where we familiarised ourselves with our rooms and got to spend some downtime with our friends to refresh ready for another long day tomorrow.
Each week your child will bring home personalised spellings to learn. Children will be tested on a set day during the week and will then be given a new set to learn for the following week.
Please aim to read at least three times a week. Your child can change their book when they arrive at school in the morning.
Monday- Magnificent Mondays
Friday- Mental Maths Test
